i tend to rehearse what i say before i actually say it to the person i want to say it to.

It could be for no special reason . for example, most of the time, when i do this am thinking about a time when i didn't stand up for myself, or a time when i really want to say something and ddidn't

I tend to keep everything inside also, because i always feel that when i do stand up for myself, i tend to think that am always wrong for doing so.

my family thinks am crazy i wake up every morning doing this.

my mom thinks it insecurity

what do you think

  1. I think that you sound a lot like me!  Like you, I tend to keep everything inside and have a hard time standing up for myself because I'm always fearing that I may be in the wrong for doing so.  Usually when I've missed an opportunity to stand up for myself I tend to mentally rehearse what I wish I could have said to whoever it was in that particular incident.  I think the insecurity is present when we do not speak up for ourselves due to whatever fear.

  2. ha, i do the same thing and was wondering about it this morning...no, i think its normal, whats wrong with rehearsing? i mean its pretty much the same as rehearsing a song or something..just different scenario...i dont know, good luck anyway

  3. I think it indicates an introverted personality....  Not a bad thing except that you probably tend to live too much inside your own head.... so to speak.

However, the practice of talking to yourself isn't so strange.  Everyone does what you are describing to some extent.  We all rehearse what we want to say in a conversation we can perceive is coming or rehash what we wish we had said in one from the past.

However, many ppl do it as an internal dialogue and only think of it as "thinking".  You are just "thinking" out loud.

If it is causing you some problems or attracting unwanted attention, try just think the words instead of speaking them.

Or even better, try to learn to live in the moment and don't concern yourself so much with the past and future.  This last part is very Zen and will help to quiet your mind which you might find as a nice change of pace.

  4. Many people do this and don't talk about it because of the reaction you received.  This is just a way of rehearsing and becoming comfortable with what you plan on say to others.  It is completely normal and as a 47 year old woman I still do this myself to see if what I am planning to present sounds good or may in fact sound confusing.  Don't worry you are like many others who just feel like making sure their presentation is solid.

  5. I do the exact same thing and I'm not crazy :-) Just this morning I was rehearsing what I am going to say in a hearing i have in a few wks. I rehearsed what I said to me boss before I quit and I do it whenever I wanna make sure that I say all that I want to and don't miss anything. its not being crazy its being anal about how u speak and getting to say all that u intend to without messing up ur speech....

  6. I wouldn't worry about what anyone thinks! I'm like that, too.
