Question:

Why is it that in every car i have ever driven in the snow when you slam on the brakes you go to the right???

i dont have antilock brakes and i was doing donuts in a parking lot and i tried it on a slant to the left and it still went to the right.

  2. Because most roads are crowned to facilitate runoff of water. Therefore, they are higher in the middle and taper slightly downhill towards the gutter/shoulder. So you slide to the right because it's slightly downhill from left to right.

  3. I assume you mean you're sliding after slamming on the brakes....

    Assuming all else is equal, the road surface is usually graded down from the center (so water drains off). If you're driving on the right side, that means the road slopes downhill on that side; hence the tendency to slide to the right when the tires aren't rolling.

    PS- Don't SLAM on your brakes in the snow- doesn't work that well.

  5. Because the roads are not flat. All road surfaces slope to the outside ( which in America is on your right ) so when it rains the water will flow to the side of the road.

    So naturally when there is ice or snow and you try to stop fast and slide...your car will go to the downhill side.
