Why is it that in movies, the pretty popular girl will go out with the quirky/nerdy "ugly" guy, but...?

....Its never a good looking guy that falls for the quirky/nerdy "ugly" girl, unless they had a major makeover? I can't think of one movie that has one of the popular guys go for an "ugly" girl...

Have you seen 'Hairspray'? The main character is an overweight girl and the hunky boy falls for her. Her mom, who's also overweight (played by John Travolta!) is also loved by her husband.

I like that film because it's really against the stereotyping that happens all the time.

uh the target demographic for a lot of movies (especially high school or quarky man child movies) is the male 18-24 group and they dont mind seeing a goofy guy on screen as long as the chick is hot.

Its quite a silly hypocracy. I've seen books turned into movies where the main female lead was not attractive so they completely revamp her so as to fit in the with the hollywood standards.

I totally agree with 50/50. SJP has a horse face, but they always try to portray her as attractive. You could make a list of ugly chicks Hollywood has try to tell you is pretty.
