Question:

Why is it that in the realm of Science, Global Warming is real and serious, but Y-answers members disagree?

If you go to literally any respectable source of Science, Global Warming is treated as being very real, but on Yahoo answers, it seems there is an army of people who insist that it is fake or a conspiracy. These same people insist that Al Gore is a hypocrite and a liar.

How can this be that all of the world's major scientific organizations agree this is in fact a very real problem and CO2 for example, produced from fossil fuels is a major culprit but there are so many people who not only can't accept that, they go out of their way to say flat out that it is not true, or it is not important?

Some only make the distinction that humans have no influence on climate change and base everything on that assumption.

Why do so many of these outspoken Yahoo answers members refuse to believe the experts or give them any credibility whatsoever? Is this an agenda of some kind?

I feel that Yahoo answers in this way is very biased and misleading and it only seems to be getting worse.

  1. I see plenty of credentials flying around as support for this theory.  What I don't see is supporting data.  There is no experiment or formula to date that can determine man's contribution to climate change.  The entire theory is based upon a weak correlation between CO2 and temperature change over time.  The same correlation can be drawn between temperature change and solar cycles.  Man's CO2 emissions can not be the driving force of variations in solar cycles.

  2. You need to grow up.  I would assume you are still in school, and that's ok.

Learn some history, in most cases when "most" people agree especaily if it is the UN, or the EU, they are on the wrong side.

    Examples are,

Europe thought Hitler was a nice felow, just a big mouth no real threat

Europe thought that no one would really kill people just because of thier religion.

Not too long ago, the whole world was headed for a new ice age, in the late 70's

Even today, Bin Laden is just 'mis understood, and not a real threat'

If the real SCIENCE was there, there would be no debate, that in its self, should give you reason to question.

  3. wow, I didn't realize there were even people who thought it was wasn't real!  All the science channels on TV seem to think it is and so does the weather channel.  Sorry, I think it is better to be careful and find a way to be prepared for anything.

  4. Global Warming is real, the US President even said so a few days ago "Global Warming is very real" was his words.  But he insists it is imperative to push forward with more drilling in Alaska and elsewhere despite protests from everyone, build more refineries and hold off on rushing into pushing to hastily (playing the it will harm the economy card) into any alternative energy solutions even though he admits they are exploring some (he's been giving green flags for nuclear for example) and brags that his administration has done more than any other in this area (that came with just being the US President at the present time but it sounds like he want some credit it sounds).

It is obvious though, Bush is still campaigning for more drilling but at least he is admitting to the Science he's recieving whether or not Global Warming is real or a problem which is something I guess.  I think it is a smoke and mirrors thing though.

  5. I completely agree with you.  I mean, the only scientists who don't think global warming is real are being paid by big oil companies.  The reason that most people think that global waming isn't real is that in politics, people that would be harmed by changing policies to stop global warming make it sound like there still is an argument regarding global warming.  If it sounds like scientists and politicians are still arguing about whether or not it is true, then the public can still be in great disagreement.  I think I'll stick to listening to scientists than the people on Y-answers about global warming.

  6. Not all scientists agree, only the ones that are being paid for by governments actually claim to believe in AGW. So if you want to think we're thinking of this as a conspiracy, it's all due to the overwhelming evidence that that indeed is the case. All you need to do is follow the money and watch how prices of everything is going up to see this. I don't know why they felt they needed to do such a scare tactic to get people to change how they use energy.

We've had recycling programs since the 1970's. We've known about solar power and wind power for an extremely long time. One nuclear plant melt down in the USSR stopped us from completing our transition from coal to Nuclear power. We have hydroelectric plants in operation all over the globe. (That's one of the benefits people get when they dam a major river.)

Obviously car companies had been working on ways to reduce fuel consumption in cars, since it sure didn't take long to start production on hybrids and alternate power vehicles.

The truth is out there if your willing to look for it and stop being blinded by the media calling for everyone to go green. It's a little scary if you ask me, since it kinda reminds me of the movie 'Soylent Green'.

Why don't you do your own research and come up with your own answers. That's what a lot of us skeptics on here have done.

I keep looking for 2008 reports about Antarctica and I never find any and it's now fall in the Southern hemisphere. To me that's due to the fact there wasn't any major melting going on down there during the 2007-2008 Summer season. And they sure don't want to report that, now do they.

It's also still relatively cold up here in the Northern hemisphere and Summer officially starts in one month, so do you really believe that the Arctic ocean is starting to melt yet? Its not and its about to have a shorter summer melting season this year. If this trend continues we're in for a major cool down, not a major warm up.

  7. right wing talk radio shows like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are misinforming the public. Everyone wants to be a conspiracy theorist. People don't trust or understand the scientific method, and most normal people already believe GW is real and don't feel the need to come to YA to tell people whereas the deniers are desperate to tell everyone etc.....

  8. Everyone knows it is real, I think some people are just too afraid to accept that it is.  As long as people are out there saying it isn't, there is hope for them or something.

  9. Because duh... most people don't believe it is real, Yahhoo answers is good at proving that point.  The Science realm comment is false anyway - 32,000 us scientists are saying it is fake now.

  10. Actually most of you are not smart enough to read the articles and data that you pretend to understand.  So, it isn't those so-called 'youth' but the so-called amateur scientists and their politically correct,  anti-bush mindset.

  11. Many of us here at Yahoo! Answers are people and sources that you just don't know.  Go find a book or an official study in a scientific journal, it will help you a lot more than many of us can.

  12. You should honestly do more research because there isn't as much of a consensus in the scientific community as you think.

  13. A majority of the 'deniers' on here are just uneducated youth with a serious anger problem!   It's their little way of standing up to authoritry.  You can almost hear the childish giggling as they post those imature, snarky tid-bits! I know what is going on in the climate, and ignorant trouble makers can't change the FACTS! Somehow they seem to find enjoyment in their ignorance! The most disturbing trend is to link God into the 'debate'.  When the term,"it's just part of nature" or "it's happened before when there was no humans",that is just 'code' for God did it!   When the 10 mile wide F-5 tornado chews through several states, will they just say that it was just "an act of God?"  When 24 inches of rain fall in a day, will they just say,"it's just rain?" The ever widening parameters of weather records, is the direct result of climate change!

  14. A great part of the Yahoo Public does not dwell in the realm of science ,they flutter about in Fantasy

    truth and wishful thinking clash

  15. Because there are scientists that tell the truth:

  16. It may sound like it's getting worse, but the reality is the more isolated doubters are, the louder they scream. World opinion, be that scientists, governments, or the public is against them and growing all the time. Just keep posting complete facts, not like some who post certain data, but purposely omit others to prove their point. Also, point out any errors you find.

  17. The has never been a period in the history of the Earth's climate where it's remained constant.  The climate heats up and cools down constantly and from year to year.  We are experiencing much milder temperature that I remember in the past twenty years.  I'm sure some global warming advocate will swear that's because of our us of fossil fuels.  I do think we should go greener a society and stewards of the earth, but don try to scare us into doing so.  Those who try to force use into going green also block our ability to use safe sources of fuel, like nuclear energy.  If the global warming advocates are so much smarter than the rest of us, how about coming up with solutions yourself rather than just finding the causes of problems.  For every solution we find, the "greenees" block progress in the name of the environment.  I have traveled and lived all over the globe and presently work in the energy sector, an I know first hand that the US is the cleanest and most enviromentally friendly country I have visited.  Do any of you know how hard and costly it is to produce energy because of government regulations, taxes, and the "green effort"?  Until you do, quit complaining about it, and be part of the solution for once.  Actions speak louder than words.
