If i remember right, India only got 1 bronze medal and yet countires who are much poorer and with a lot less population has won more medals then India? I'm talking about some African, Asian, South american countires. This is a disgrace to india, ok i know some sports india is not good at, as it requires money and special training grounds and equipment. But surely A country who is an upcomeing economic super power with such a large population that cannot produce more then a few medal winners in boxing is a disgrace to sports! What do people think?

  1. Brother it's just bcoz of our country's corrupted politics.

  2. In India Games are not adopted as Jobs. They are taken as pass time for recreation only. Even good layers like wrestlers, boxers, hocky players, bedminton players or swimers and so on they have to look for their livelyhood. so we lag behind in Medals.

  3. They're way too busy making money in the budget hotel industry and convenience store franchising businesses.

  4. india probably can't justify the millions of dollars it would cost to fund the games - particularly when they people starving.

stupid them, they would rather feed their people then send athletes to the games...

  5. Our ideologies are wrong. In the name of secularism we practice separatism and it reflects in our results.

The selection procedures is devised in such a way, not a single performer can get through.

People who are political can reach to the top. That is their achievement for life. When time comes for performance, they fail. This is the fate of Indian government also.

  6. Sports are not in India's "to-do" list. They are more interested in nuclear bombs and corruption than furthering their people and nation.

  7. they got a gold for shooting YAYA!!!..

its that they arent getting enough support from their country

they dont have the poper training needs and proper coaches that sttick to their committment

like the first person said....its not a priority....india is known for cricket........main sport.......they more care about the education and politics....they could care less about the sports.....but when it comes to someone getting a medal they celebrate but thats about it...

i am an indian living overseas

  8. Every sports body in India is under the stranglehold of

some politician or other who does not know his a s s

from his elbow as regards the sport he controls.

    Corruption,nepotism and favoritism are rampant.Except

for cricket, all other sports are sidelined. For that matter,

in cricket, apart from the officials, many of the players themselves refuse to surrender their places because of the huge money, both in the game and by way of endorsements, involved. There is no infrastructure worth

the name.Added to that ,allowances given to sportspersons for participation  in both domestic and international competitions are so meager that they are

not even able to afford nutritious meals leave alone

sophisticated equipments. When the odds are so heavily stacked against them how can they be expected to bring home any medal.Even if the Olympic body decides to increase the medals in each event, like after

bronze, then copper, iron, tin etc.we cannot hope to get any category. It is a shame we Indians have to learn to live with.Incidentally, even the shooting gold that Bindra

secured for India is no thanks to the concerned sports body but to his rich parents who besides building for him an air-conditioned shooting range, provided the best foreign coach(es) at their cost. The government

didn't spend a penny on him. Now,you can be sure that

money and gifts will be showered on him like water. And

water is mentioned only for the purpose of expression,

because it is too precious a commodity these days.

  9. corruption and the society that says all men should find good permanent jobs and get married early with good education are the big reasons. you are right, it is a disgrace to sports, India is seen by the world as a nation full of weak individuals. India needs to change!!

  10. Maybe it's just not a priority for them.  India sports a pretty good cricket team but that's not played at the Olympics.

  11. Competitive sports events require extraordinary skills and efforts.  In India, any extraordinary event is by tradition and custom treated either as a divine act or demonic act. Naturally, divine acts can be done by only one or two persons. But, demonic activity is not approved by society. It is an age old traditional practice to touch by fingers and to take to the eyes in the form of reverence and repentance, if any thing or anyone is hit or stumbled upon by leg(s).  For Indians every object around then is divine and reverential.  When that is the practice, how anyone can expect an Indian to hit a football or do some demonic act like beating some one or something? So, the innate feeling refuses to change even after training and practicw.
