  1. Before the revolution in Cuba, the Americans treated it as an off shore brothel.

Perhaps there are designs for Costa Rica.

  2. North Americans want land in Costa Rica because it is a beautiful, peaceful country. There are places in the U.S. that also fit that description, but everyone has his or her own tastes. Costa Rica definitely offers a different experience. I've lived in both countries for several years at a time and believe both have many good things to offer.

With that said, I don't see how North Americans are TAKING Costa Rican lands. They are paying fair market value for them, and often pay much more than that. Foreigners bring money and jobs. I know that some people like to point out the negative impact of foreigners, such as child s*x tourism and violent crime committed by immigrants from other Latin countries, but what can you do about it? Would Costa Rica be better off not letting in any foreigners? Would Costa Rica be a just society if it prevents people from buying and selling land under consensual agreements? I would answer these questions with a resounding 'no'.

  3. The land in Costa Rica has presented large investment opportunity for those in the US and other first world nations where money is the primary motivation.

Not to say that EVERY North American is looking to strike it rich, however, the real estate market in the US is SUFFERING right now. The prices of property are getting less and less and people are "fore-closing" on their property and homes. Costa Rica's property value has been steadily increasing especially in the last 5 years, so lots of people are looking to make a profit here.

What we need to do is make sure that operations being owned and invested in by foreigners are ecologically sustainable and that people are aware and focused on conservation. It is a VERY SAD and UNFORTUNATE fate that tourism is centered around making a profit and people are loosing sight of what this country is all about. Nature, the environment, and Eco-friendly tourism.

  4. it is a nice warm place and when you become an adult you will understand that people like to relax and get away from work.It is also fairly cheap to you can get a nice piece of property for a less amount of money then most places.

  5. I personally would leave Costa Rica alone but to answer your question the reason some want to is GREED

  6. Comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges, it's a lot cheaper to live there with US dollars.
