  1. Morning Cookie, you may be right in some cases, but this reporting of wayward children is not a new phenomenon and in the vast majority of cases the reporting is done out of genuine concern for the son / daughter and the victim.

There was case last week on BBC Breakfast where a mother reported her two sons for beating and blinding another man, she has taken no fees from interviews or from the press, she only wants' to explain her actions and encourage other parents to 'do the right thing'.

  2. Guilt is a terrible burden to carry.

They most probably feel very guilty for giving up their loved ones and selling their story is a form of vindication from guilt.

A way of distancing themselves from someone who was born through their desires and pain.

Don't judge then badly will you. I would hate to have to walk in their shoes.

  3. Could the need for it be construed as a failure of their parenting. The police, in effect, becoming father of last resort.

The very fact that it becomes a headline story suggests that it is not something you would expect a parent to do, except in the most extreme situations. There is a tension between family loyalty and public duty. A mother would have to be genuinely confident that it was in the best long term interests of the child and any potential victims, bearing in mind it will get a criminal conviction.

I could be a nice little earner for a mother and son in cahoots.

  4. I'm telling You, Gas is REALLY getting Expensive..!  :0

  5. Keeping chickens is also becoming trendy.

  6. the cash and maybe to warn us all it could happen to you,

maybe she needs to explain also to ease the guilt she may feel for shopping in her own flesh and blood

    regards x kitti x

  7. There is a double standard of shopping some of these shocking offspring which I have no problem with but then they get into bed with the Sun or some other brainless tabloid.

It is the lure of money because as humans we seem unable to refuse these "bountys" for doing what was right

  8. Did she actually SELL her story?  There is no mention of that in the link.  This woman sound to me as if she genuinely cares about her son's welfare and wants to give him a short sharp shock before he goes down the wrong road. She doesn't sound like the type who would do it for money.

Youth crime, and in particular knife crime, is a serious problem in today's society and she obviously feels very strongly about it.

I don't think it's a trend, I work in a police office and it's not the first time that someone has brought one of their kids in and given them a tour of the station - including the cells!  That, and a good talk with one of the community officers can work wonders.   So fair play to a woman who wants to keep her kids out of trouble and who doesn't just try and cover up their actions.
