Why is it that non-believers (in God) find it so hard to just leave Christians alone? Are they so ensure in what they believe that they have to constantly hound Christians? Does it somehow make them feel smarter? They ask for a Christian's opinion, but then bash us when we are honest. Why is that? Why can't they just let us ask questions without belittling us?

  1. Jesus did tell us that you would be persecuted for your beliefs. You would even be hated. Stephen was stoned to death even. Things have not changed. All you can do is preach and give people who are honestly on here seeking spiritual help answers. It's nothing new. Some misguided Christians do the same thing to them, like being threatening and cruel to them will change anything. Christ was gentle and meek, take this approach and leave it up to God to water the gospel seed you plant, it will be on them for mocking, blasphemy and not listening to sound doctrine when Christ returns to judge this Earth.

Also, to answer a post, Christians are persecuted a lot. Currently in Indonesia, as well as numerous other places worldwide, for as long as history records.

  2. You're the one asking the baited questions, hon.  You can't ask a question in such a condescending tone and not expect people to take offense.  I'm not sure where you're from, but personally I've been persecuted by enough "christians" to feel completely entitled to respond to provocations.  It's not to make ourselves feel smarter, its because we're perhaps a bit sick of the whole god thing.  Its your belief.  Fair enough. You can make your own choices according to those beliefs.  As long as you don't harm anyone, most of us "non-believers" probably won't care.   However, for example, look at US politics in the last few years.  The religious right has organized itself and is trying to turn the country into a bloody theocracy.  I don't see fit to put up with people trying to legislate morality, saying who I can and can't sign a legal contract with and what I can do with my body, according to a system of values that I don't subscribe to.

Just saying, we're not the ones doing the attacking.

  3. that's very interesting because many non-believers feel the same way towards radical Christians.  I guess both sides experience negativity for their beliefs regardless of WHAT the belief is.

My advice?  turn the other cheek and stay true to your beliefs.  If you're being hounded for your belief in God, just smile and walk away.

  4. how are Christians persecuted more than any other belief?  are you talking about how the government follows separation of church and state?  and protects the right of everybody to believe what they want?

Edit: then i guess your question also goes for believers who bash non-believers right?  they fear what they do not understand right?

  5. Because we're concerned about human kind and planet earth. So many people are so brainwashed about reality that it's effecting our chances for survival as a species.

Edit: No we understand it way better than you and realize what it is and how it works. Faith, God, and religion are a disease that cause stunted mental development and irrationality.

  6. What are you serious?!!

Have you not read what Christians have done to none believers or those of different beliefs? Read about what they did to heritics and ask your self "who's really the innocent one here".

Non -believers are just fighting for this controlling to stop with its child indoctrination and bigotry. How does it feel to be hounded? How about those who have to drive to work and see thousands tell them (through picket signs) that they're morally equal to a baby raper, a murderer, that because they don't believe in god, that they are also believe in abortion etc. and that this god (who loves them) has it out for all of them and is going to make them suffer for eternity becuase they were heritics to the mainstream consensus of ancient belief systems.

oh yea, by the way, im a Christian, and i've read and have learned what it means to TRULY show love and live in a world without strife.

  7. If you saw someone harping on and on and on about their imaginary friend and how much their imaginary friend loves them and what their imaginary friend expects of them and how the world ought to conform to the standards set forth by their imaginary friend... wouldn't you be concerned?

"Yes Christians are persecuted way worse. For confirmation on the issue see any history book, government decission making process in the last 50 years, and the current world and local news."

Sweetheart... you're providing examples which CONTRADICT your assertion.  That's not gonna help you.

Also... what PRECISELY do you mean by "bash"?

  8. first of all, if you ask these generalizing questions you deserve to be ridiculed.  i am one of those non-believers you are accusing of belittling you.  i take offense at that.

secondly, people believe in many things - just because i don't believe in your version of religion does not mean i am a non-believer.

third, there are some Christians on here who are vile toward anyone not of their own faith.  stop throwing stones.

  9. Personally, I believe that religion is dangerous (gives people justification to harm others, witch hunts, terrorist acts, persecution, etc) and it helps to hold back social progress (undermining reform of drug laws, sexual repression, abstainence)

The religious moderates attempt to promote political correctness, which makes confronting, challenging, and debating fundamentalists, who cause most of the actual problems, more difficult.

  10. What about the hundreds of christians saying we're going to h**l?

Why is it that believers in god find it soo hard to leave atheists alone? Are they so unsure inwhat they believe that they have to constantly hound atheists? Does it somehow make them feel smarter? They ask for an atheist opinion, but then bash when we're honest. Why is that? Why can't they just let us ask questions without bashing us?

  11. Christians, in their delusional state, think that their superstition holds truth for everyone, and as such they try to inject their superstition into politics, education, healthcare and whatnot. If they kept their fairytales to themselves, nobody would care. But they can't resist to push their narrowminded ignorance, so for the sake of a sane society, rational people have to fight their superstition where ever they can.

  12. Well, I am an atheist.  I will leave you alone when 15 or more "religious" people stop visiting my house every year to try to convert me.  I'll leave you all alone when you stop judging others.  And I'll leave you alone when you stop hounding women about abortion.  So to make it simple for you, when all of the "believers" stop throwing the rocks, so too will the "non-believers."

  13. Oh, Shame on me for waiving pamphlets in your face outside the grocery store, or picketing the Women's Clinic and walking you up on a Saturday morning because I want to share the "gospel".........Oh, wait a minute, that wasn't me. It was a Christian.

  14. It's a 2-way street. Take a look at some of the things said by christians about atheists on R&S:

“I do think that all Atheists should go to h**l.”     - Mary L-

“i guess those people that dont believe want to burn in h**l for eternity!”     - jons babe-

“Jesus is the only way to heaven. All other ways lead to eternal h**l.”     - Chris-

“Jesus's message was simplke- worship him as god, or burn in h**l.”     - Toad Face-

“You're going to h**l if you don't accept Jesus and stop mocking Christianity.”   -Colt B-

“your burn in h**l.”     -The fool says there is no god-

“god is real and there just goin to h**l if they dont belive in him”     -Haley-

  15. Christians are suppose to go out and spread the word.  Maybe non-believers have the same idea.  Extreme right wingers have tried to get the government to become more Christianized that probably scares people.  I think that if you ask for someone's opinion, you should not bash the person.  We have become a society of people who believe that they have to scream loud and long to get their point across.

  16. I don't remember ever having seen a question from an atheist asking one who believes in the unknown to explain themselves.  However, I have seen many questions from acknowledged "Christians" asking atheists to explain themselves.

With that in view, I truly don't understand your question.

  17. Why is it believers (in god) find it so hard to leave the non-believers alone?  There I am sitting drinking my coffee and here comes someone with a bible that the probably stole from the Motel 6 and wants to talk to me about god?  Tells me I'm going to h**l if I don't accept?  Do you know that the most vile, vulgar and threatening emails I get are from believers?

  18. That's just how satan works!! Have u ever seen people badgering those who believe in buddha, Muhammad, a lamp?? It's one of the devil's tack ticks. He won't bother those who isn't on the right track. Those who are he's going to attack like no other.

  19. What have you been smoking?  If Christians didn't bring up their faith at every turn, we would not feel obligated to respond.  Exactly how many atheists have made the first move in bringing up religion?  Do we come to your door and try and convert you?

For the most part we only talk about it when you go around saying stupid religious stuff that we just can't let go unchallenged.

  20. Perhaps it is because we have been hounded by Christians for too many years. I don't believe it is right for anyone to belittle someone else for their beliefs. Let me ask you this, why can't Christians accept that not everyone believes in god?

  21. Again, you're being to general. I, for one, do not care what other people believe and most Atheists I know are the same. I ask no one their beliefs and 'hound' no one. As long as they keep it to themselves, I will respect their wishes. All I ask is for the same respect...

BTW, even though I don't accept it, it's always a pain to have people telling me that I am going to h**l for being an immoral Atheist when I'm NOT immoral...

  22. Because they are for Satan obviousy, unbelievers will not understand or maybe not want to, know Jesus, Know that Satan wants to destroy Jesus and all that he stands for including us who follow him, Satan sends people to tempt us and de rail us to keep us from knowing who God is, its really sad for those who do not believe i worry for the day when they face God for the things they have done all people will face God on Judgement day if they dont believe, I really do fear for what lies ahead for them, all we can do is pray for them, they have to be willing to come to God themselves and ask for forgiveness with a pure and sincere heart, ignore the negative stuff they may say to you, their opinions dont matter whos opinion should matter Gods not thiers, as long as they dont believe they will be in the darkness blinded, what relationship can we really have with them, we're enemies, they are on Satan's side we are on Jesus's side, light and darkness have and probably never will have relationships all we can do is pray for them. Good Luck..

  23. Are non-believers the ones leaving notes in mailboxes saying you're going to h**l if you dont believe in jebus, that atheists are morally bankrupt and we should spread this message throughout the entire world?  I think you need to come back to reality and check your persecution complex at the door.  You can't be the persecuted ones when more than 3/4 of the country believes the same thing you do.

  24. Feeling persecuted? I think the belittling goes both ways, some of the christians bash non-believers and some non-believers bash christians. I think it evens out in the end. It would be nice if we could just share opinions and have interesting conversation, but it doesn't seem to work that way. The topic of religion is historically one that gets people upset . I think it is because there is so much left to interpretation, its based on beliefs and not on facts. There is no way to prove who is right or wrong because there are no facts and no proof.

  25. I say cut public funding to every philosophy department in the US. This is the source of 95% of the problems: Marxist professors. Let them sell their wisdom. I don't need to pay good money to give them a bully pulpit.

  27. *Yawns* When the fundie extremists in your religion stop trying to enforce their so-called morality on the rest of us, we'll be more than happy to live and let live.

I have nothing against normal decent Christians, I even have Christian friends. It's the fringe idiots I go against.

  28. Because the question we are being asked all the time is if we have yet found your Jesus!

  29. I've seen Christians that can't leave non-believers alone.  I've seen them belittle them and be extremely rude to them as well.  I've also seen Christians attack people of denominations they don't agree with.  Also, it's not all non-believers and it's not all Christians.  I think what bothers non-believers so much is the fact that some people won't leave them alone when they say they're not interested.

  30. I am a lapsed Christian (i.e. born-again but apostasised due to loss of belief in the Trinity) and i still have faith in God at least as the rational part of every human being reflecting the order of the Universe, so make of that what you will regarding believer/non-believer.  Anyway, i think some strongly opinionated non-believers see Christians as intolerant and irrational.  One of the reasons i left the faith was that i don't believe you can honestly be a Christian and accept homosexuality, but rejecting homosexuality means rejecting one of the ways in which love is expressed.  It can't be denied that the material standard of living has risen for many people as a result of science, and if you don't believe in evolution, which many feel is incompatible with the Christian faith, they feel that maintaining a scientific world view is not really possible.  There is a difference between standard of living and quality of life however.

Some people may also feel that the idea of survival after death is a distraction from what they see as the real problems of the world in this life.

  31. Because God is Truth and they deny God because admitting that He exists means admitting that they have been living sinful lives. God said that as Christians we will be attacked by non Christians. What we're supposed to do is not to condemn others with fire and brimstone, but to show them love and tell them that living a wordly life is just that...worldy. There's no purpose to life then. They need to live a life full of purpose which comes from knowing God through a personal relationship.
