  1. Older people like to  blow their 401ks on  the lottery.

  2. Younger people NEED the money they have, to say do things liek buy a home

While older people have extra money and do not need to pay for such neccessities as they likely aready have them

Making younger people less inclined to gambling than older people, so all in all you would be more likely to see older peopel winning jackpots since there are more of them playing, and more of them playing more often.

  3. This isn't always true, but as far as gambling populations you will notice that more often than not it is people in poverty and older folk who spend their time at casinos or take long shot risks.  This is simply due to their social and economic situation.  It actually makes sense for a poor person to invest $1 in a lottery ticket even though they are 1,000,000+:1 to win, because that single dollar invested in another area will do basically no good.

The same goes for older people.  They are most likely living off of a retirement fund or social security.  With a fixed income, they are willing to take more risk to hit a bigger reward to improve their overall condition.  Plus, with so much free time why not do something fun?

The lottery and gambling in general is a great socio-economic look at people.

  4. Because that age group contains the people that really buy lottery tickets on a continuing regular basis.
