  1. Because if I want to hear Spanish I'll go to Mexico, if I want to hear Chinese I'll go to Chinatown. Come to think of it I've never had a problem getting English speaking customer service in Chinatown.

  2. don't get starated with me, i hate these racist ppl who have problem with mexicans, chinese, indians, etc..... these people do more labor work then most americans and still people can't stop complaining abou them. think if mexicans, chinese, indians, etc. stops working for a month...... america wouldn't be like this. not many americans speak chinese, indian languages, or spanish (well, some just started learning)...... but all these people learn English. if an american goes to mexico, wat do u think they'll speak there?? they won't learn spanish, they'll try to find someone who speaks english. thats wat mexicans, chinese, indians do. y is it so hard for most americans to understand this simple thing???

  3. Look up the "Chinese Exclusion Act."

The "Immigrant ScapeGoat of the Decade" changes with the political currents of the time, and inevitably comes with charges of linguistic inferiority as well. If you think Chinese people have never been the targets of extreme racism and xenophobia you've got some reading to do!

Even today, if i had a quarter for every time i heard someone say Chinese speakers "talk funny," make fun of the Chinese language(s), or accuse Chinese speakers of being excessively secretive just for daring to speak Chinese in public ...i'd be a rich man!

Not to say that Chinese speakers have it better or worse than Spanish speakers, or that they've experienced the exact same hardships. Just that racism is racism, and it's f'd up either way.

  4. Maybe is because Chinese are not that many in the country than Hispanics and the Chinese are not always asking for special favors and demanding what they don't earned..

  5. I agree w/ most of the answers. The chinese are not protesting and demanding that they have rights and everything must be in chinese."China town" is just that...a small area. As where Mexico "town" is not.I don't understand why mexican imigrants(legal or illegal) don't ban together in Mexico and fight & protest the way they do here, for their "rights". Maybe if they did; they're country might be a place they'd want to live. Instead of coming here making problems. If they want to be here ;fine.Just stop complaining and live your life, otherwise take all that drama & "ambition" back to your "great & beautiful" country,

  6. So you're comparing China Town to the entire US???????

That's like saying I'm bald if I lost one strand of hair!!!!!!

  7. Because most Chinese are not demanding that we cater to them in their language. Plus, Chinatown is only one area. The Spanish speaking people are everywhere. I dont have a problem with it, as I speak Spanish, but I hear a lot of people complaining about it. I think if hispanics made an attempt to learn the language instead of demanding that "someone speak-a spanish", it wouldn't be as bothersome.

  8. That's an interesting question.

Want to know something even MORE interesting? The very people who complain are often referring to having to press a number to continue a call in English. However, they don't realize that often times the company they are contacting not only appeals to the masses (whether that be Spanish/ French/ Chinese... all of which I've heard on an automative system before), but those very companies often have sister-companies overseas (guess where a lot of the cheapest labor lies). It is only reasonable they would offer more language options than simply English.

Furthermore, I have known MANY Americans (myself included) to travel outside English-speaking territories who did not speak the language of said country. Instead, tourist phrase books are used (if anything at all - sometimes the traveler simply expects the other people to cope with their limited communication abilities).

What many Americans fail to understand is that a great many Latinos that come to the United States do not necessarily intend to stay. So, say you're a Mexican (JUST AN EXAMPLE HERE) who comes to the United States to work, save up money and return home. If you were only planning on being here, say, 6 months to a year (yes, many are here longer and THAT is usually unintentional because s*** happens that forces people into compromising situations), would you bother learning much more than the basics? Please, thank you, how much... I'll tell you what. If I were in China and didn't plan on spending the rest of my life there, I seriously doubt you'd see me bending over backwards or putting forth much effort to learn the language. Besides, I would probably feel out-of-place in such a country and would gravitate to people similar to myself - taking the language learning barrier pretty much out of the picture.

But people will always complain about Spanish moreso than any other language because of current media issues.

  9. People are racist! And close minded!

  10. The reason why is because its in china town not on EVERYTHING thing

they don't go all over the place expecting their language to be on everything

its just in one spot CHINATOWN

  11. I think those people who are complaining should shut the fu** up. Being a Spanish Speaker myself, i think America needs more culture, language, and traditions. Hispanics and other nationalities are just expanding more culture around America! I think its great that America has so many different races and people, and it makes this country more interesting.

For example, if you go to Africa, expect to see African Culture. You won't see Hispanic Culture or Japanese Culture there. However, in America you can see all these cultures! It's all a learning experience, and America is the best place to learn about cultures since it has so many.

Also, a seller of a product would want all races to buy whatever they're selling. How can a buyer do that if they don't know what the heck it is?! Soooo, they translate it in their language and it is better money ;)
