  1. Because of the internet scams mainly originating from Nigeria.

But it is true what one answerer has said, the people scammed are not so honest themselves, they wanted to gain money without working for it.

  2. I am a Nigerian and proud to be one; so far I have found out that any one who cries to be dubbed by a Nigerian is budious and corrupt themselves: How can you send money to someone you don't know from adam and expect something good to come out of that ..... pls Nigerians might be 1st class scammers, in the eye of the world ... it means we learnt from the Best ....the western world.

  3. I'm one of the people who patrol Answers so I can report "Advance Fee Loan Fraud" scammers... This isn't a case of scamming the corrupt like the "next of kin" scams, or scamming the lonely in the case of the romance scammers... This is taking advantage of people who are already hurting...  I've contacted 200 of these SCUM... 85% are in Nigeria, another 10% are in other parts of Africa, leaving 5% "elsewhere"... a couple from Singapore, a Canadian, an Australian, etc...

In the US, if someone does this, unlike Nigeria, they can COUNT on ending up in jail as soon as they are caught... Here, the expectation is you will put in an HONEST day's work to earn your bread... Until you people deal with the corruption in your system, Nigeria will continue to be thought of as "The SCAM Capitol of the World"!

  4. Because of all of the emails and phone calls that go around DAILY from a poor man from Nigeria that wants to wire you 20 million dollars, or a lottery in Nigeria that says you have won a ton of money, but you have to give them a few hundred dollars for processing, along with your bank account information.  The majority of these I have seen have been from Nigeria, so how are you to know when it is the truth and when it is a scam?  Better to stay away from it completely.

  5. Four

    One

    Nine

    :-)

  6. i agree with you 100% the only reason nigeria is being targeted is because we were smart enough to scam people but when their money did not come that's when they want to alert media that someone stole their money...greedy people

  7. Because people think Nigerians are corrupt!

  8. Ignorance and fear due to the fact that the only thing Americans hear about Nigeria is what the media wants you to hear.

  9. I think one of the reasons people may mention this is because of a well-known email scam that went around a few years ago.  It said that a Nigerian Prince or businessman had a lot of money that he needed to put in the email recipient's bank account, etc., etc.  I think this probably provoked some stereotypes or, at the least, made people more likely to mention the "Nigerian businessman" who supposedly sent out this email.
