Why is it that people are so shallow in middle school and high school?

How come all the guys like THE popular girls,

and all the girls like THE popular guys?

I dont get it...

it is because that is what society focus' on...and at that age kids and teens start to focus more on appearence and what everyone else thinks. Try not to get drawn into it. It also has to do with Striving to be known and if you end up with someone popular then maybe you will become popular...just dont be shallow like the rest of them. :)

In a very general statement, they are self centered and just don't care.

Other then that, it is what is familiar to them, and anything else would be considered "weird".  They wanted to be accepted by their social group, and dating out of their group is mostly not accepted.

Because they think its the most important thing in the world at that age. And pretty much is considering that they're lives revolve around school, you can only hope that they grow out of it as some people never do.
