Why is it that people say that London is too expensive place to eat?

me and my wife always find good places to eat on the cheap.

London is not expensive if you shop around. The only thing i do agree that is expensive is the cost of buying a house.

They look at prices in better / top restaurants and ignore the cheaper ones eg Indian Veggie Buffet, Chape Market N1, £2.95!

Its the only place i know that bottled water is more expensive than petrol !! dont believe me, go to any petrol station in london and compare their water Vs there petrol.

I used to work in london frequently and used to get an £4 a day food allowance, you try getting a sandwich and a drink for this.

It isnt just london, rip-off britain is terrible for just about everything.

When people say dining out in london is expensive, they are biased because of the amount of 'posh' restaurants, where you can pay fortunes to dine at a top chefs place. When in reality there are cheap and expensive ones. Just more expensive ones in london. Hope that makes sense :)

People are too lazy to find the good decent priced places, type of people who just read the guidbook and go for the well known, or have not sense of adventure....places on tourist hotspots alwayshave higher disity fo expensive, unless you prepared to look, like that in all cities

I agree totally, property has an artificially inflated value. I visit London a lot for work and thereare places there to eat just as economically as any other city I go to.

I found a cafe in Tottenham that serves you Latte for 60p a glass!  As for the property, a 4 bed house in Windsor costs no more than a 4 bed house in rural Cheshire.

It pays to shop around.

Try Bistrotheque-its cheap and food is amazing! its kind of hidden away but well worth a visit!

It can be expensive whereever u live-like u said its all about shoppong around!

I think people are under the impression that it is expensive because you tend to pay more for smaller portions.

True, their are places to eat on the cheap but most of the ones that are advertised seem to want you to remortgage your house just to have a starter! Lol

Brick Lane is very good for curries and it's relatively cheap...

I think they say this in comparison with cities like Paris or Rome where outstanding food can be had for relatively low prices.

what most people here in the states think is that the exchange

rate pound to dollar makes it expensive.

It because Londoners live and work in an expensive city , thus the high cost of everything is reflected in your earnings .

People visiting London from areas where the average wage is £200 per week simply cannot afford London prices .

Also familiarity with the city allows you to shop around whereas visitors are invariably sent to the more expensive areas .

going back about 7 year when i went with a mate we only found 1 pub where we got change from £5 for 2 pints so i think it was a bit pricey
