Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours? ?

They probably wet the bed.

Most babies sleep very soundly.  They sleep through storms and whatever is going on around them - and wake up when it's time to wake up unless they have a bad environment.

As to waking up every two hours, only little newborns wake up frequently to nurse. More frequent nursing helps to bring in more milk from mom and keeps the newborn's little tummy comfortable.  It's like little newborn animals.  Their tummies are too small too hold too much and need to be nourished more frequently.

Besides, it's a great time for bonding!  It would be great if we didn't have so much on our minds and feel so stressed so that we could sleep like a baby.

I read that getting enough quality sleep keeps you a lot younger a lot longer.

It's just an expression calm down. Mostly the mother makes sure the baby sleeps 24/7 so they won't get all tired. If I slept like a baby I wouldn't be tired. I would have gotten a good sleep.

have you ever seen a sleepin baby. i have an 8 month old and when he sleeps he looks like a drunk that passed out on an ally way! hes relaxed and comfortable without a care in the world.

That's if the baby's are alive they wake up every 2 hours...

LOL. I guess because we see babies as being at peace and perfect and comfortable all the time, so we assume they sleep well. personally, i say i slept like a log...because they can't wake up...they're not alive. lol

i guess because once a baby is asleep they don't usually wake up til they are fully rested which isz about 2 hoursz lata =]

Babies wake up at night to feed,but other than that they will pretty much sleep through anything,concerts,sometimes even vacuuming.I know someone who tried to give their baby a bath and the baby slept through it!!

eventually babies will sleep through the night, and they sleep very peacefully and it's sometimes kind of difficult to wake them.  i would interpret "slept like a baby" a peaceful good night's rest.

Probably because when babies are asleep(regardless if it's an hour or 6 hours) they always look so peaceful and as if the were getting great restful sleep.

Because they slept soo well it felt really good when they woke up. They were pretty much sound asleep. Really relaxed and everything.

When i sleep like a baby, I wake up fully rested and refreshed.

I imagine babies wake up feeling that way too.
