  1. Before the baby, I'd have a lazy Saturday and go mid afternoon, when EVERYONE else in town was there and I hated it!  It was so crowded, people not following the "rules of the road," and long lines.

Now that we have a baby, I wait for him to go to sleep and then hit the store (my husband stays home).  At 10 pm on a Wednesday night, it's dead and I never have to wait in line, wait for people to select their favorite gallon of milk, or swerve around in the veggie area!  It's great . . . well, maybe not great . . . but certainly better!

  2. Ever go there with a kid? Yikes!  Even the best behaved kids get bored and you can't entertain them because you are busy shopping.  Then they see something they really want and all heck breaks loose when you say no!  And then as you try to discipline your kid, other people look and judge you! And then when your cart is full, you have to drop everything and run your kid to the potty!!   I like going without my kid, however.  I try to find new things to try.  That's fun.

  3. I think the dread comes from having to lug the kids around with you.

First of all depending on the age you have to time it just right so that the child has been fed, changed, and it's not too close to nap time.

Then you have to get the diaper bag ready and prepare snacks so that your kids will not scream that they want something (even though that sometimes is inevitable).

Then you have to get the kids bucked into carseats, drive to the store, get a cart and get them all situated...then you have to keep tabs on walkers and repeat "please don't touch that" ever few minutes.

All in all it's a workout to go to the grocery store.  I personally enjoy it as long as I don't have all of my kids with.  If I do it's more like a field trip!

  4. Loading and unloading children, shepherding them through parking lots.

Combat shoppers (you know who you are, stopping in the middle of the aisle and not letting anyone through, shoving in front of us with two kids in tow, cutting pregnant moms off).

Hot parking lots and hotter cars, dragging all the groceries in the house after getting them.

The prices that are higher every time, and the cost of the fuel to get to the store.

Unloading a full shopping cart onto the 15 or less belt because you were so sleep deprived and addled you did not notice what you were doing, and then seeing all the looks from the combat shoppers giving you the hate stare.

Forgetting the one crucial thing (eggs to make brownies with that you promised for class on Wednesday) because your toddler was talking nonstop and he needs to "TALK to you."

And last but not least, the developmentally delayed employee with eyes that stare who is too informal with your baby.

  5. i dont mind going to the store its getting everything in the house and put away only cause i live on the second floor so its a pain

  6. it probably depends on how long you have been going. i have been married for 6 years and i still don't mind going however some days i really don't want to but most days i'm fine with going. before i got married i would go shopping for my mom because... 20 years of grocery shopping has to get old after a while. i wouldn't say i "love" going but i would much rather go grocery shopping than clean the house.

  7. Gas is the big one and taking time out of your day when you want to relax.  Your spending both time and money.  Malls are different though.  I enjoy going.

  8. I believe it is pure laziness mixed with having to deal with other people or the dread full long lines.

  9. I don't like to go because I always end up needing to go down the isles where people decide to stop in the middle of the isle and have a conversation with another shopper! GGRRR!  ;)

  10. For me its because there always seems to be more moms with awful kids there than my tolerance level can deal with.  I cannot stand it when I am trying to do my shopping, and I have to deal with some mom who has 3 or 4 kids, all of whom are running around the isle, blocking everyone's way, ignoring when people nicely say excuse me, and the mom seems to have gone deaf the minute she entered the store as if she cannot hear her children running rampant and the other patrons trying to stay pleasand but still get stuff done!  That, and it seems like the bigger hurry I am in, the slower everyone around me wants to go!  UGHHH!

  11. I love going grocery shopping when I'm by myself.  If I have to take my 3 year old, I don't love it as much.  I find that it is relaxing shopping by myself, but when I take  my daughter I get frustrated sometimes because she is constantly wanting something or doesn't want to sit in the cart.  Also you have to time it with her nap or do it on weekends because you don't have time to do it after work.  I find also that I tend to forget alot of items when I take her because I feel so rushed.
