Question:

Why is it that "street smart" women aren't all that smart after all?

They're usually the one's being taken advantaged of the most-- (right/wrong?) Women that are street smart- have usually been ravaged in every way imaginable by the time they acquire that nod.

Most people- and when I say most people I really mean MEN- when they are praised as being "street smart", are expected to be savvy, and have a good deal of common sense. -- Why is this not true of women in the same situations?

  1. Can some one please find me a question where a woman is bashing a man? All I ever see here is men bashing women like this guy and yet men scream that feminists do nothing but complain about them. Are you people illiterate?

  2. "Street smart" is just what they call stupid people to make them feel better about not actually being smart.

  3. Street smart are for people who were dumb enough to do things to fit in with the crowd and from seeing what other idiots would do to fit in.

Now they are street smart, they know how to fit in without having to do some things that other idiots may to fit in.

Street smarts are for losers basically who hang around losers.

  4. Who, specifically, are you referring to? I grew up in one of the dirtiest, harshest ghettos in the United States. Not only did being in that situation give me knowledge that would be considered "street smart" (gang and drug terminology, slang, skills to protect myself, a hard exterior, etc.) but it also gave me the drive to succeed and educate myself and absorb any sort of text, math calculation or theory that I could.

You think the women who are "street smart" are being taken advantage of more? I don't agree with you. A woman with that street edge who isn't afraid of much because she grew up in h**l basically will fight a lot more for what she believes in and what she doesn't than someone who grew up in a sheltered environment who has no common sense when it comes to the outside world. I haven't been ravaged. I have no idea what you're talking about.

What inspired this question? Do you associate with the type of woman you speak of? I'm curious now because all my girlfriends from the States are "hard as h**l" and don't put up with anything - oh, they're college grads.

Edit: You should have made your question directed towards prostitutes then. No one I grew up (or lived in the same projects with LOL) with became a prostitute - not a soul. You know what though? You often hear of young women who grow up in stable environments and turn to prostitution to break away from their family and their cultures norms. Then there's the "I stripped my way through college" thing (myth or reality, I don't know), and some of those women get manipulated into prostitution and addicted to drugs that way. Are they street smart because they prostitute? Not always. Some of them are "daddy's little girl" and no one can explain how they ended up where they did. Selling your body doesn't go hand in hand with being able to protect yourself.

**I didn't answer your second question directly, I'm sorry. You didn't mention drug addiction in your first question. People who are addicted to drugs are driven by that one force - finding, getting and using drugs, getting them by whatever means and getting high. They are blinded to anything like success, getting themselves out of that situation and feeling shame for their actions. I don't think "young prostitutes" should turn into old ones, of course I don't. That doesn't mean they're not book smart as well though. It means the money is really good, or the drugs are keeping them too high to do anything about it.

  5. I believe you have it wrong. Street smart women as I see them HAVE COMMON SENSE. The "BOOK SMART" women usually don't .....Rare to find a woman with both qualities.

  6. Being 'street smart' just means you're used to life on the streets. there's nothing smart about it.

  7. Actually, I find street smart women are smarter than book smart women. Can't read about life's experiences and expect to understand life that way.
