Question:

Why is it that rugby players do not celebrate scoring a try in the same as footballers when they score a goal?

Footballers will jump on each others backs, wrap their legs around another player's hips, fall to the ground and lie on top of each other.

The most rugby players will do is give each other a mild hug.

Why is that?

Silly question, I know, but I'm curious!!

Thank you

  1. Rugby players don't  show their emotions alot when playing.  I mean, you don't see any "hollywood" acts from rugby players as you do in football.  Also, goals are harder to come by in footbal, than tries in a rugby match.  You should see games played in the past.  No emotion at all after a try was scored.

  2. the Argentian players give each other a little hug, that's the latin temperament I suppose.

  3. because doing so is kinda g*y. Rugby players like to just get on with the game, cos every second counts. They tend not to blow their own trumpet because it's a team sport and no matter what the individual brilliance could be, there's 15 other guys on that field and you had better compose yourself and get on with the match. Being humble is what it should all be about.

  4. 1. possibly bcos they r knackered after ploughing through a defensive wall or running around lots of opposition players.

    2. possibly bcos they arent as nimble to jump up onto another ones shoulders or do a flip

    3. rugby pitches are bigger so players have to run further to celebrate with their team-mates

  5. because football is a real mans sport so scoring is a greater achievement and worth celebrating. They're celebrating the fact they got into the endzone and can still walk.

  6. I can think of a couple of reasons right off the top.

#1, We're more "macho" and aren't as big on the whole public displays of affection.

#2, Tries are a lot more common than goals (outside of England anyways) so it isn't as rare and thus, less partying

#3, We know that if we celebrate too much, we'll get bashed in the next ruck.

#4, Rugby players have more class

    #5, See #4.
