  1. Anything you eat at a restaurant tastes better than you can make at home. Especially if you are very hungry. It's because you can sit down, order and eat without any effort on your part. I can cook very good food, usually better than I can get in any restuarant, but the relaxed atmosphere, no pressure on you etc. is what makes it taste better. I prefer a home cooked meal, but enjoy being pampered at times.

  2. I truly believe it is because somoene else is making it and the hospitality is there too.  Even when someone else makes coffee at my house I think it tast better then the way I make it!!

  3. Because we don't have to make them! Plus we don't have to clean, and cut the vegetables. That's a pain in the butt. And then have to clean it all up. Making salads are annoying. Even though I know it's fresh at home, they always seem fresh when I eat one out. Very weird!!

  4. It is probably several of the following

    - freshness of ingredients

    - being served in general is nicer

    - fun salad toppings you wouldn't always have at home

  5. They don't for me - it may be that you're purchasing lettuce and other ingredients that are not super fresh. Good restaurants tend to turnover their produce very fast and that is the key. Also, most lettuces benefit from being tossed first in oil with other dressing components added only after that.

I have tasted a few restaurant salads that surpass mine, but not usually. Practice and, to repeat, very fresh components, make perfect...and at home!
