  1. is that a question based on personal experience?

I mean, do you belong to one of those "despised families on estates"? If so, how does that make you feel?

Lay on the sofa and let's start from the beginning.......

Twice a week and I promise you'll start feeling better after each session....

  2. Baaah, baaah, baaah, baaah.

  3. I've always thought that odd as they claim much more in benefits than any estate family.

  4. Estate families don't represent the country worldwide, nor are they a symbol of our heritage. Our royal family is part of our national identity and I for one would support that to the death.

Though royalty is not unique to the UK, it is rare in globally powerful countries and should be admired in our own country as pockets of others do. I find a mere 66p a year is a bargain, frankly £66 a year would be money well spent to keep our heritage and identity alive aside from financial issues. They bring dignity and civility that no other country can match and we should be proud of that.

By the way, the royals do have great personal sacrifice due to their public engagements, which are every day of the year. As for the queen personally, she has engagements every day 11 months of the year, during August she still has do approve Goverment proposals at Balmoral and their estates provide a great deal of employment.

  5. Very good question!

  6. They are not scroungers, they work hard for their money, especially the Queen, who is still working at 82.  Will you be still working when you are her age?  I doubt it.  And I seriously doubt you could cope with her endless round of public engagements at any time in your life.

Moreover, the income from the crown estates goes back to the British people.  The royal family got 40 million pounds last year, and the crown lands made 200 million.  so we made a profit of 160 million from the royal family.  That seems pretty good value to me.

  7. If they were as bad as you say I'm sure there would have been a revolution by now.

  8. Justin,

Proponents of Britain becoming a republic have been around for almost 400 years. Polls show that only 18% of the citizens of the UK are in favor of ending the monarchy.

Is it at least possible to add some wit, or cleverness, or substance to the question? Somebody writes this opinion about every two days. It would be nice if somebody wrote something different than "scroungers", "welfare recipients", or "mooches".

  9. It`s because although the Windsors ARE major league scroungers ..Her Madge does not have tattoos, flipflops, and children called Miley, Kylie and Jordan .... it`s her redeeming grace ...

  10. Only those members of the royal family performing royal duties receive a money  allowance from the government (which, by the way, cost each tax payer around 60p per year).

Among those royal duties, it's worth highlighting the tremendous charitable work that the family carries out, day after day, year after year.

Let us also remember the importance of the tourism for the British economy. The UK is the sixth major tourist destination in the world,

will it still be without the monarchy?

BUCKINGHAM PALACE's change of guards is still the #1 tourist attraction in London.

    ADDENDUM:

    ==========

Justin: thx for your feedback, I respect your opinion and I am sorry that my answer didn't sound real to you.

I wonder if without the monarchy those sights would still be so well preserved or if they would have a change of guards.

I lived in London for few years and I happened to be at Victoria station when the death of the Queen Mother was announced: the whole station froze, lots of women burst into tears, so many people crying and sad on the streets for days.

It was obvious, they loved her.

Some people might, just might, call that real.
