Why is it that so many educated people like him are homophobic??

Hi , I am a college g*y guy , & just wanting to take a view of my professor on homosexuality ( because I doubted that he was a g*y too ) , I asked him that I wanted to make a project on Human RIghts ; Slowly I brought the topic on Homosexulaity & homosexuality is linked to human rights , Just as I spoke the word " Homosexuality " , His face become silent , The smile that was a bit prevalent earlier faded ; there came a look of disgust in his eyes & he didn't responded to my Question ; My Question : Why do people after being so much educated , still treat poor homosexuals like doormat ; To your surprise , My professor have been a science student , & He is believed to be one of the nicest / tolerant person in the college

There is personal rather than theoretical reaction.

Sadly, most straight men are threatened by g*y men simply because they have never been on the receiving side of any relationship... dominance is male. Women are used to being objectified, looked over, desired or despised, from very early on. And we learn, early on, that not everyone male is after us, disrespectful, stupid or horny. We learn to cope, interact, etc.

Straight men may never in their lifetime have been intimidated or looked at that way... when a woman looks at a man it isnt a threat in the same way as when a g*y man looks at a man, and dominance is in question. Men just are not as used to being an object and cannot believe anyone wouldnt want them. I am not suggesting this teacher thought you were coming on to him... but without thinking it through, many hetero men are just repulsed at the very idea of a man being interested in any other man because it threatens their personal security at the top of the pecking order.

Logically they can come around to see that is silly... You are no threat to him, and as a g*y teacher you would be no more threat to your male students than he currently is to his female ones. Nobody is automatically a pedophile or rapist whichever way their orientation. But you saw his first, gut discomfort which in men comes out as hostility more than fear. It is a shame, but it was a very visceral first reaction for which he may well feel bad.

thats not true.  i know alot of well educated and have heard of well educated people who are ok with it.  its more personal than depending on how knowledgable u r.
