Ive heard that the bookies put out tips of horses they know wont win etc.

Also about trainers owners and jockeys who wont try to win if they dont like the bookies odds but put out word that there horse has a chance just to bump up the odds next time round

There must be so much money spent on the old : My mate knows a stable lad from a yard who have a runner today who wont be beat tips floating around....

Can anyone explain this to me or better again disprove it with a winner??

  1. If you knew which horse would win would you tell the world and make your betting  pay-out less?

    Nuff said.......

  3. Your rambling question can best be answered by the following:- trying to predict a future event is always going to be at best an informed guess.

  4. As an econ major, I can make a guess...

A racetrack tout would have little incentive to suggest betting on a favorite, because he wouldn't be likely to get a tip for his expertise, and even if he did it would be minimal.

A tout, therefore, would tend to increase his own chances of receiving a bonus in the form of a commission or a tip, by suggesting bets almost exclusively on the long-odds entries. And the long-odds entries are the least likely to win a race outright, precisely because they are the most-likely to reward the tout.

Note that a tip from a tout has already been discounted by the market, and is no better or worse a bet than any other.

  5. Hi.  Heres an example, have tips for Argentine and Funfarewain in the 4-25 York on Friday. Undoubtedly other people will have other tips. Problem is lots of horses have easy races before they try. Trouble is everyone is doing it.!! Oh the 4-25 race, can't be having Argentine, but might have a bit on the well drawn Funfarewain.!!!

  6. the main problem is that -as much as humans try and sort the race result, nobody really tells the horse what should happen and they will make fools of any human-thank god.

  7. Gambling's for losers.

  8. dont know what the h**l frederick m is babbling on about. to answer your question in short bookmakers and trainers put out false information on a horse so that the horse is backed and the odds shorten . then the few people that know there horse is in tip top shape and has got everything in its favour and is raring to go can then back that horse at better odds .because as one horse is backed the odds of that horse shorten then the odds of the other horses drift then when they get a price they are happy with they lump on . true the odds of that horse will then shorten but it doesnt matter then because the people in the know are already on.

  9. cause how the h**l can you predict which horse is gonna win!

  10. because everyone wants to be a winner especially gamblers

  11. Everyone is always going to have tips for horses. These horses won't always win. I like to check in with a trackwork rider every now and then, to get an idea about who's been doing what.

As for trainers and jockeys restricting their horses purposefully- I would think that that would come under race fixing.

Horses aren't machines, they have to enjoy racing to do it. If they don't like it they won't run. They can't and won't win forever, every horse has a bad day. They're entitled to.

I was tipped on a friday night, that a mare, long odds with all betting agencies and bookies, that she would place against some of the best.

    She did, tidy third.

Was also alerted to another mare, who went on to win, at reasonable odds.

Both those horses were in good spirits, not carrying injuries, had been running good track work, were basically themselves.

I also have other "stories" where horses have been "big" on the morning of the race, and run a shocker.

    Racing is a tricky game.
