and some are just last minute hurry up and panic? China showcased a logistical masterpiece that will be hard to top. Do some countries invest more time and money and research into it or is it a cultural thing?

  1. China most certainly planned for an extravaganza like no one has seen before.  Not all countries can afford to spend the amounts of money that China spent to host the 2008 games.  I don't think it is a matter of investment of money because the idea behind it has always and still remains cultural.  Organization skills are a must in order to host any olympic event. Without them, total chaos would ensue.

Edit: I agree with Jeff in Dallas that no country should spend that much money to host the olympics. That is crazy.  And, I don't know about anyone else, but that  show and the job they did as hosts does not make me feel any differently than I did before about the Chinese regime and communismn.

  2. Because they are richer in land and in technology also they have plenty of resources...

  3. The relative importance of these olympics to China was unprecedented.  They needed this to become respected on the world stage.

    Other countries don't need that.

China spent $44 billion on these olympics.  No other country would do that.  No other country should do that.

  4. I'm sure if Tokyo is the home for the 2016 Olympics they will top it because of how far they are in technology. I doubt the 2012 London Olympics will even try to top what the 2008 Beijing Olympics did.
