Ok here's a silly question;

Why is it that some phones don't have a "Q" on the keypad?

I was looking at this stupid riddle:

I live above a star, and have eleven neighbors. PRS (& sometimes Q) are my initials. Who am I?

**The number 7 on a telephone

And when look at the really old phone in my desk I saw that it doesn’t have a Q?? I wonder why haha you can tell I'm really bored...

Thanks

  1. im  guessing its just cuz its not a popular letter...its a cute joke though :)

  2. Because Q and Z aren't used that much so they didn't put it on.

  3. Most older phones don't have Q or Z (did you notice if there was a Z?)

    I think it stems from the fact that rather than a number being 987-6543, they used to be WUS-6543. I believe for this example that WUS would the location (area, town, township) of where the number was from. I guess it's rare to find an area that had a Q or Z in their name?

    Now we use the area code, which ideally tells you where the call is from. I live near Philly, and numbers are (215) 987-6543. The 215 lets me know what area the call is from. 610 and 484 are common for this area.

    Now on say your cell phone the Q and Z are there, and I believe that's mostly for texting or telamarketing (companies whose numbers spell their product). I'm not 100% sure, but that's what I've gathered?

    Does that make sense?
