the kids can hear the music from the ice cream truck a full ten minutes before their parents can?

I don't think it is any scientific reason.. i think they jus want ice cream so they listen as closely as they can.. adults don't really care or pay attention unless the truck is on the street.

serious answer, their ears are better than yours.

as you age, you lose the ability to hear the higher frequencies.

they are better listeners -adults spend more time talking.  we could learn from this.

Yorkie is right, kids hear better.  Also, girls and women can hear greater ranges than boys and men.

It also helps when it is something you want to hear!
