  1. Two of the main reasons pro cameras take WAY better pictures or video than consumer gear is because the lenses and imaging chips are a lot bigger. Bigger lenses let more light in to the camera so the imaging chip can see better and the bigger imaging chips can "absorb" more light... The combination of both results in higher resolution and much bertwer images.

There are other reasons, like there are more chips to hold more instructions so the pro cameras have more capabilities, and in pro camcorders, the mic pre-amps are bigger and better which results in much better audio quality.

Plus, they very rarely use their camcorders (since you posted in the camcorder section) in hand-held mode. Their camcorders are nearly always on a tripod, monopod, SpiderBrace, camera crane, shoulder mount, steady-cam or glide-cam unit... NEVER hand held... so size/weight do not matter. And this is also why their shots are pretty much ALWAYS steady. If the shot is shakey, it is because that shakiness was added during post production.

  2. More bang for your buck lol

    :)

  3. lens and chips get bigger to put more information on the image. the bigger the chip the greater the native resolution will be (generally).

however, its not the most expensive cam that will deliver the results, its the best cinematographer. some really amazing dp's can do a wonderful job n a cheap and cheerful compact camcorder and the guy with too much money and no talent will produce the opposite.
