Why is it that the salary in Mexico & US is different?

ok... so my question is why is the salary in US around $47,000 dollars for 'network adminstrator' and in Mexico is around $197,00 MXN (pesos) [$19,000USD]??????

Yes I know that the cost of living is different in Mexico than it is here.... but is it really that much of a difference?

I actually lived in Mexico for a few months with a family and we talked a lot about politics and the economy.. while I was there I met a lot of young people who were studying to be doctors and lawyers and they actually made seem like it was kind of easy to be one, but although they make enough money to support their family they probably are as well off as the lower end (or a little higher) of our middle class, like teachers or hairdressers. It is partially because Mexico's economy is not too good, it is corrupted by the government, the government officials are very well off but do not pay attention to the needs of their ppl...any way, a lot of ppl who have degrees do decent but are not that well off , which is another reason why a lot of mexican families live with the parents and grown children and grandparents to help support eachother. Bottom line my answer is the economy and the government, and the fact that if someone is lucky enough to get a post-secondary education  (which is only if they were able to get a great secondary education) it is free so I think that it kind of makes up for that.

The Mexican network administrator is operating inside businesses that have lower output per labor hour and so pay less.  Even if skills are identical, the output that is sold must be sold at a lower price.

You skills must adjust to the local economy. There is no such thing as a Global Wage or Value on your skills. You are a local commodity, not a global commodity. Not to mention that Mexico most likely has little use for a Network Admin. As such, there is most likely little demand to drive your wages higher.. Where as, if you were a corn shucker or tequila cactus cutter, your skills might be greater demand and you'll receive more money.

I'd recommend trying to compare your wage in foreign countries which have a need for NetAdmins. Places like England, France, German, etc.. Industrialized countries..

Think about it. What use is a Rocket Scientist to an Amazon Tribe in the Jungle? As such, his wages and position in life might be slage heap worker.   Whereas a Rocket Scientist in North Korea has huge value and such a person would be given the keys to the city.
