  1. The desire to earn green bucks. New grads now like to earn more after graduation and the only way to get the payback quicker is to go overseas which means they either have to become nurses, doctors, physical therapists, engineers or IT professionals. Less and less students are taking up MComm  and Psychology, that's why.

  2. because supply is supposed to be directly proportional to the demand, if the current market demand would be for nurses and call center agents, then students would be lining up on these programmes.. and also,in our present socio-economic situation, versatility of college degrees are seriously taken into consideration. A bussiness management graduate's chances of finding an applicable post, generally is higher  than a psych degree holder,etc.. risks and working hazards may also be affecting the number of students i guess, apparently our country has a disturbingly  high incidence of mediamen murders

  3. it doesn't provide much financial support..being a columnist or newspaper writer would only give you around P5k a month, that is why most journalists venture into additional jobs like photography or being a writer in TV or radio as well. but it is a fulfilling job if its what you really want to take.

there is satisfaction in doing the job you have in your heart..

  4. I don't know about here.  I can tell you I worked with several male nurses that had their degree in clinical Phych but changed to nursing for the money.

  5. I dont think so. Many students also taking up Mass Communication though much Nursing Studens than MC it is because highly on demand course coz of jobs abroad. But yes you right only few enrolled in Psychology Course.

  6. Pardon me but I do not understand why you say "only a few".

There are actually a lot who take up Mass Comm, and I get a lot of applicants for positions in Advertising from MassCom graduates. There is even a very active alumni org of UP MassCom graduates!

As to Psychology, there are also a lot, though the numbers may be dropping relative to enrolment figures in the past.

Yes, the law of supply and demand affects students' choices of college courses. The number of Nursing students is at its all-time high. Yet, there are still a lot (as opposed to "a few") students taking up MassCom or Psychology.

  7. Most are taking up Nursing. Bigger opportunities here and abroad.

  8. Actually no, both courses are actually common nowadays. In fact in my last stint in the Philippines I receive a lot of CVs from graduates of these courses.

Mass Communications or Broad Communications is one of the better degrees to take for those who are interested in media and journalism. Human Resources and Clinical Counseling is a growing trend and a degree in BS/BA Psychology is preferred for those who want to have a career in these fields. Probably there are more engineers and nurses but you cannot describe the volume of students taking these courses as "few".
