  1. i think it may be because some people don't like how thunder can be loud or when lightning strikes.

but, personally, i love thunderstorms =]

  2. It may depend upon how close the thunder and lightning are.  If it strikes and topples a tree in your yard with the instant 'Keeerack!' it is not very calming.  In the far distance it can add a little spice to life.  Knowing that it adds useful nitrogen to the soil is more soothing than knowing the chances of it hitting a three iron on a golf link.  To each his own they say and ignorance is bliss.  Lightning can come in 600,000 volt bolts and can be very nasty.  A direct strike is not necessary as it can induce voltages in nearby pipes and wires.  Make calls using only a cell (or portable) phone during an electrical storm, unless the other party is within the same storm and doesn't have a cell (or portable) phone.  Take a shower only after the storm is long gone.

  3. If you don't feel you are going to be hurt by them,  you will probably just go with the flow,  but if you're worried about about tornadoes and being hit by lightning you will fear them.
