Why is it that ticket machines on buses do not give change?

if you insert more money than the ticket price into the machine, it just swallows the whole amount and doesn't give you back the change, even the driver doesn' give you change...why?

  1. Time they dont have time to give everyone change.  Buses run on a schedule


  2. They are meant not to give thieves a reason to hold up the driver because they are like safes.  Not even the driver can get at the money.

  3. do you mean the fare box

    its because back in the old days the drivers got robbed for the change,.,

    now you need to have a exact fare for the driver and passengers safety

  4. Virtually all public transit system require exact fare. Some transit systems' fare boxes will issue change cards with the amount overpaid. The card can be used towards payment of future fares.
