Why is it that venus williams' ranking didn't improve despite winning the Wimbledon?

Not 100% sure about the points system..but maybe because she won last year as well...?

she won last year so she had to defend 1000 points.she won this year again so there is no change in her Ranking

It's a crazy points system but she had to defend 1000 points since the won the title last year.  It is ridiculous but that is how it is.  Many times the best players aren't in the number one position so most people don't go by the ranking but on how well the person is playing.

She won last year.So she was defending 1000 points. The points a player earns, lasts only 12 months before they expire.

It's all about WTA points. Players get points depending on how far they get in a tournament and how big the tournament is. Winning Wimbledon would have given Venus a stack of points but not enough to overtake the next ranked player.
