Why is it that we stand up-right when the earth is a sphere, eg Australia is situated around the lower part-?

-of the earth, so why aren't they 'hanging upside down' basically lol!! So why is everything horizontal on a sphere.. I mean i believe it's to do with gravity, but i simply cannot get the concept of this, get my head around it,,What are your theories?

One of the biggest misconceptions caused by placing the north pole "up" and the south pole down, is that the south pole is hanging down.  In reality you could look at it the other way and say north is down. For some reason the maps are normally putting north up.  You can probably get some the other way, or just turn it upside down.

because earth is spherical in shape.

Imagine, if the world is simply a plane horizon, then here in the Philippines, I should see the Mt. Everest or the Himalayas or any very tall structures from other countries.

of course the Earth is flat! If it were a sphere all water would flow down and we all should have died of thirst long ago! Just see what happens to a fishbowl if you turn it upside-down!

Well..yes it is the gravity that makes u stand up straight and not fall/drift off into space...earth is a body with huge mass, hence the gravity...without the gravity life wouldnt have existed at all on earth....the first forms of life would have drifted off itno space...

and about the horizontal plane...well it is not really so...coz when u see a ship go away form the port, it disappears after sometime...it is not coz u cannot see that further..even using a telescope u cant see it...coz it has gone on the spherical surface.
