  1. Make sure you always pull the loop through the chain the same way and make sure you always yarn over the same way too.  Tension is a little harder to master, but if you need to, switch to a larger hook.  Some people use a hook one size larger when making a chain and then use their regular hook for the rest of the project.

If the first row (or foundation row) on your project is going to be just single crochet, double crochet, or half double crochet (with no skipping chains or putting two stitches into one chain), you can also skip the chain altogether and use a "chainless foundation stitch".  A lot of crocheters really like it and here's the links to the videos:

  2. When I am crocheting a chain I secure the chain tail by squeezing it between my ring and little finger pressed against my palm.  I will make 5-7 chains then readjust the tension pulling the chain tail down.  Try to make sure every time you chain the right side is aways facing you.  Like everything else the more you chain the better you'll get. :)

  3. Hi, is happening so because of the texture of the threat, cotton, or yarn what you use to crochet.

  4. Probably the tension is too tight.  I've been crocheting for 45 years and mine still sometimes does that.  Differnet threads and yarns act differently.  Also you might try changing the size of your hook to control the gage.   My projects usually start out at pattern gage and then turn out loose as a goose.  LOL!  Good luck!

  5. It also has to do with tension.  Yours is obviously imperfect.   (So's mine; my chains twist, too, and that's what I was told.)  Work on keeping your tension even and just right -- not too tight or too loose.  You'll get it, though it does take practice.

  6. When making your chain and adjusting it through your fingers, always make sure to hold it in the same place, on the same angle.  Don't twist when you adjust.  Also be careful to keep your tension consistent.
