Question:

Why is it that when I import a photoshop file into final cut pro some effects disappear?

It seems that anything that I applied from the "effects" menu from photoshop disappears when I add it to final cut. This includes options like shadows, bevel and emboss, etc. I want to use .psd files in final cut so I could play around with the separate layers. I think I have final cut pro 5, photoshop cs2 on an imac G5 running osX. I know very little about Mac hardware as I have been a pc monkey in in most of my computer training.

  1. prolly cus of compatibility issues with the filters and such

  2. save the files in .jpg or gif format.  and coloring in RGB format.  its' standard.  and if you are talking about animation effects, those aren't going to work well.  but ifyou are talking about distrot, or ripple type effects, then you need to safe the file in .jpg or .gif format.  to see them work but also have a back up in .png or whatever the extension final cut saves in so you can edit.

  3. What may work best is to export each layer from photoshop as a separate transparent gif and lay them on the timeline in FCP, giving you the freedom of layers without the issue of losing effects information.
