I hope that someone can help me. I have been wearing toric contact lenses for 15 years. Last week my right lense was scratching my eye and when I took it out it ripped on the edge. I thought this was a bit weird........today I got my new lense and when I went to put it in it was scratching my eye. I am freaking out because my eye doctor told me that as my astigmatism gets worse I will not be ab le to wear contacts anymore. Now I am worried that this is what has happened. I am going to see him so he can check my eye but wanted to know if this is true?? Can astigmatism get so bad that you cannot wear contact lenses anymore? The person where I buy my lenses told me the same thing. I cannot even imagine wearing glasses for the rest of my life. With all the technology out there how can this be possible? I guess I am looking for someone to give me some hope.

  1. You may have an irritation on the surface of your eye that is aggravated by your lens.  Very few people have astigmatism so bad they can't wear lenses.  They may need to switch to custom made lenses (either rigid or soft) to obtain the correction they need.  Not all doctors are willing to fit the more complicated lenses, and you may need to find one who does.  More than likely it's a temporary problem with the eye itself, and with the right care, you"ll  be back in your lenses again soon.

  2. I used to have this problem and I was just dealing with it for a while until I just complained to my mother and gave me some great advise......   Maybe the Contact lens is inside out.... but yet you've been wearing them for 15 yrs so i guess u already knew about this kind of thing and already tried it.

  3. at certain degrees of astigmatism we can't wear toric contacts for full correction , but you still can wear contatcs but you will not be able to see very fine as u used to , cz you will be under-corrected .

  4. your eye may be to dry! use eye drops maybe it will help!
