Why is it that when a woman cheats...?

she's a w***e, but when a man cheats, it's "clearly" the woman's fault that her spouse cheated?

My ex-husband cheated on me, several times.. like he apparently cheated on all his exes (I didn't know that at the time). But now, people are saying it's probably because "I drove him to it"... but when we hear about a woman who cheats, she's "a w***e who couldn't keep her legs closed". What's with the double standards?

Simple:

men who cheat = w***e

women who cheat = w***e

Really no difference...people for some reason put men and women in differnt categories, gender wise i agree but nothing more. If one can be excused why can't the other? if a woman is a called a w***e, why can't a man be called a w***e as well? since they are doing the same action?

Double standard = excuse, plain and simple

I think it's just easier when our heart is broken and we still love our man to be pissed of at the other woman, or husband poacher, as I like to call the one who tried to poach my husband. This is difficult because it really does take two and you need to be able to deal with your anger toward your husband--not just put it all on her--in order to heal and get past it all.

Ah, yes, the ole double standards! It's not fair nor right but we don't have it as bad as the women who were from our grandparents generation, it has improved for us but we are still the bad guys if we cheat, but if a man does it it's swept under the rug. Reality is, in any relationship, be it man or woman, neither should cheat. I'm sure you know that you didn't drive him to cheat, this is something he did all by himself. Men & women cheat for different reasons, most men cheat for sexual gratification, while women are seeking a emotional connection.

This has been a double standard since the beginning of time.  If you read back through the ages, whenever a man had a mistress it was just what men did and the woman put up with it. But when you read about the women having affairs with other men, then they are immediately labeled a w***e. I don't know who made up the rules back then, but they still haven't changed!!!

agreed!!!!  She deserved to be cheated on right? yeah right and he's a stud for doing it.  Women are flagged for everything, if we have a few drinks we're easy drunks however men are fun cool buddies, if we are older women with younger men we are cougars men on the other hand are lucky, if we like older men we are gold diggers men however are having great s*x with an experienced woman, if we go to the club dancing for a girls night out we're cheating on our husbands guys are just having their "guys night out", if we're not married we're g*y; men are "smart", if we don't sleep with our husbands constantly we're frigid men worked too hard that day. If we're asking we're nagging (at least we ask), if we state our opinion on something we're *itches men are right?  If we call we're insecure if they call its never discussed, and the list goes on and on.   Go figure!  Chin up though we are the stronger breed through and through and our anatomy controls them, the best part is they know that.  And by the way be glad he's your ex.

Its funny how most female avatars here are saying thre is a double standard. However, it is far more likely for a WOMAN to call another woman a w***e than it is for a man.

Because in this country we live by double standards.  Men want women who aren't whores so when a woman does ANYTHING wrong, that's the label thrown on her.

Its biology.  Men are biologically polygamous.  Women are serially monogamous.  That is not a reason it is a reality.
