  1. are you talking about actual rain or the figure of speech?

when people say... "when it rains it pours" they are referring to one bad situation happening to someone and the bad keeps coming (much like everything happens in threes).

    for example:

a family friend of mine passed away in a car accident..

2 weeks later his parents were hit by a drunk driver

the father was in a coma and has actually just woken up.. he didnt recall any of the events that had happened so they had to tell him and relive the death of his son all over again.

and the mom broke her arms and legs..

soo basically by that one little thing happening it turned into an awful series of events..hence, "when it rains-it pours!"

but if you are talking about actual rain.. this is the meaning of it:

When it rains, it pours describes how after there has been no rain for a long time, it suddenly rains a lot all at once.

  2. That is also an old marketing ad for Morton Table Salt.  (Still says it on the box, I believe.)

Most salt would clump in damp weather.  That is why you see rice in salt shakers at some restaurants, to absorb moisture to keep salt flowing freely.  Morton's salt was treated, or processed, in a way to keep clumping from occurring.  So that "when it rained, it poured"! ;-)

  3. Well normally when it rains there are parts of the condesnsed vapor that causes a fallout in the precipitation It is caused by the vapor gripping parts in the atmosphere that causes it to liquify and fall in large numbers.  I hope this helped you.  Which is why it pours often in cities there is alot of gas emissions.
