  1. when people yawn it appears they get some relief and it shows on their faces. we too would like to experience that euphoric relief so we yawn too.

  2. I think there are two principles involved.

One is the distributive property in math.  If the whole class sleeps,  then it means the subject and the prof who brought this on them,  has this property in abudance and ought to be distributed equally.

Above principle does not apply to me.

The second does.  It is the principle of equality of all men.

If the worker next to me yawns,  I shall immediately invoke this principle.   Why can't I also sleep on the job?  We are all created equal!

  3. zzz... to see who's better at yawning. hmmm... beer... zzz...

  4. everybody agrees!

  5. People in close proximity are experiencing the same fluctuation in the atmosphere which may trigger a yawn.  (It is not contagious.)

  6. I am a big big fan of Mythbusters and they did experiment the myth that yawning is contagious. It is confirmed but this confirmation does not apply to all.
