Why is it that when theres a storm, everything goes silent?

No birds chirp, no movement and no breeze. Its just absolute silence except, for the thunder

  1. When there is a storm coming the barometric pressure drops. The animals sense a storm is coming because of this pressure change and either seek shelter or if the pressure drops very low they migrate to another location. (You will notice flocks of birds flying when the climate changes severely, the same applies as seasons change)

    The wind seems to stop as a result of the air and moisture being sucked into the atmosphere to form clouds. As this happens pockets of positively (+ve) and negatively (-ve) charged particles (ions) form in various clouds, which when in the right combination collide and cause a surge of power (lightning), you then hear the thunder within a few seconds (sound travels at about 340m/s) so if the source is 1 mile away you will hear it about 5 seconds after the flash.
