Why is it that when you look at an ocean its flat, but the world itself is circular?

  1. Why not watch a ship coming into port. Watch the ship as it is coming from over the horizon.

    Stand at the waters edge and pick an object out to sea such as a boat or a navigation buoy. Now lie down on the sand and note how much of the object you now see. Now go back up the beach and stand up on the bank or wall and note what you are seeing.

    In the first instance you may see the whole object. When lying down you may only see the top however when standing on the bank or wall you will see the whole object and the sea past the object. This then proves that the sea is not flat as it may appear but curved as the curvature of the earth.

    As the earth is round gravity holds the water to its surface.
