Why is it that when you make layered cocktails you add the densest liquid LAST?

so it THEN goes to the bottom? isnt that counterintuitive? like in tequila sunrise you add grenadine last that goes to the bottom, in a bellini you add peach juice last, WHY? thanks =)

  1. Wow, I would assume because while the grenadine is settling it'll mix in with the other drinks if you put it first, but that is probably wrong.


  2. For the look too... The deep red of the grenadine in a tequila sunrise mixes with the other ingredients to make that red swirly pattern that looks like.... wait for it... a sunrise

  5. It IS counterintuitive. BTW, those aren't cocktails. The layered things are pousse-cafes. They are designed more to look at than to drink.
