Why is it that when you put foil in the oven nothing happens but put it in the microwave it might explode?

  1. foil absorbs heat energy from a regular oven, but it reflects radio-frequency energy from a microwave generator -- right back into the generator, causing the generator to overload and possibly explode (or, more likely, just burn out).
