Why is it that women are treated so unfairly in some countries?

As someone who has studied sociology for years, be careful when you make generalizations like this.  It is a cultural thing.  Perhaps in your culture they are treated unfairly but in their culture it is fair and just.

Because in most societies women are perceived to be 'weaker' and 'vulnerable' than men...i totally disagree with that premise, however...

this question is all about perceptions... you say that are being treated bad, but compared to what... compared to whom... if that is the norm where they are from then that's just the way it is for them and they don't know anything else... some choose that lifestyle, some hate it...

Men have been  afraid of women for millennium. Women bleed without dying, women are the bearers of life. And we can poison male's food :P
