  1. I can't speak for ALL parents of course, but I suppose p**n and kidnapping are simply the two most horrific and imminent dangers fed by media.

Frankly, unsupervised children whether 5, 13, or 16 risk exposure to dangers on endless levels.

Unwanted resources on any given topic can be found... things that can hurt themselves or others.

Couple that with today's internet subculture formed by kids in every age group that is both emotionally and psychologically damaging in ways that have far surpassed anything we have seen in the past.

What would you do if YOU had a kid?

  2. The last time my bro (age 11) was on the internet alone, he gave enough personal info about himself (to a complete stranger) to be found.

p**n and kidnapping are a reality and parents want to avoid both for their children.

  3. Have you watched the news lately?

  4. You know, I just don't get it! I wasn't allowed to have the internet until I graduated high school! haha Yes, my parents were strict, but hey, at least I was safe! I can't believe that parents let their young kids on the net alone without any supervision. It's just crazy. I think that if you're going to be letting children on the internet, the computer should be in a public area of the house, you should monitor their internet sites, and use parental controls.

  5. Because since the dawn of the Internet age, there have been child predators ready and waiting with a practically anonymous way to chat and find young children.  Its made it MUCH easier for them.  Besides, the first thing I think of when you mentioned a child being unsupervised on the Internet is not p**n or kidnapping.  My first thought is, "well the h**l are the parents?!"

lol  Sorry.  I meant "Where the h**l?"

*In reference to "young" I personally believe that my children will ALWAYS be supervised while on the computer for as long as they live under my roof.  That doesn't mean I'll stand over them to see what they are doing, but there will be parental locks.  They will not have an Internet connection in their rooms.  They will not be allowed to chat on random websites.  I will routinely check the viewing history to see what sites they've been at.... things like that.   If they break the rules, Internet privileges will be revoked.  Too strict?  Maybe.  Better safe than sorry though.
