  1. It is a proven myth that cell phones are, in no possible way, a danger to use around fuel pumps or any forms of flammable petrochemicals and natural gas. In fact, a cell phone's signal is actually the highest when it is about to receive a call, just before it rings, not during a conversation.

However, if it does not interfere with the electronics of the pump counter, I guess it is just a myth that every one will continue to believe in for generations to come.

  2. They say the charge can build up in the cell phone and arch to something and ignite the gasoline.  I think this has been proven wrong but I am not 100%

  3. Something with the  radio signal Can possibly Ignite the gassoline, and when gas stations catch fire...

Least, thats what people say, i think myth busters covered this..

  4. you can cause a spark and a fire

  5. Okay many people will disagree with this but here goes.......

The cell phone by itself will not do anything and this has been proven many times over..........

If the cell phone is dropped and the battery comes out, that could cause an electrical charge that could ignite the flumes....

  6. It was unfounded panic that has been perpetuated by the stupid.  It's kind of like the fear mongering socialists who are promoting global warming.

There is no danger in using a cell phone while filling your gas tank.  But, there is a danger of static electricity igniting fuel vapors.  Now, if you can get your cell phone to throw sparks, I'd be very impressed.  But all it takes is for you to get in and out of your car to create a spark.

Mythbusters busted this cell phone myth a few years ago.

  7. I think Mythbusters (or a similar program) did a show about this. And from what I remember, nothing happened. It was debunk'd.

  8. cell phones can spark.. spark=fire=explosion=you die

  9. They say it is because the device may cause a very small spark which may ignite the fumes from the fuel.

It is an extremely small chance, but they don't like to take chances!

  10. Because of the radio frequency energy coming to, but mostly being sent by the phone. Have you ever been on a computer when the phone rings and the screen goes a little haywire. It is the RF energy doing this. RF is electrical, very high frequency, high voltage, but low current. The chance is very remote that this will happen, but if it is just not your day, up you go.

  11. your cell can generate an electrical charge and combined with the gas fumes can Explode... Thats why...   :)
