I am definitely pro american and a military vet, but this question is weird-

I have a friend of a friend who is from nigeria, not a US citizen, and got a student visa. So she goes to school, but she cant work like normal college students to help offset the rising costs of education so she had to go back home cause she couldnt afford it.

Isnt is redundant to have people go to school in the us but they cant work a part time job at publix? Whats the national securtity issue here? or is there something I am not seeing?

Thanks

  1. You can work with a student visa.  It was in the past where you could not work.  Right now they allow you to work while you go to school.

  2. does usa offer diplomas on how to cheat ppls out of there money i think not. tell them to go home

  3. It's like that almost anywhere. I used to go to school in London and I couldn't work either and London is expensive! I only could afford about a semester there.

  4. When a foreigner applies for a student visa (F-1) and are granted such, it is assumed that they are financially capable of paying for their studies here in the US without the need to work.  After all, that is why they came here - to study. If they relaxed the rules and let those supposed students work, then what is to stop them from working full-time and studying part-time? Then a 4 year course will take 10 years? They will now compete with american students for jobs. Then our children will have a lesser chance of supporting themselves through college.

International Students with F-1 status are not permitted to work off-campus without INS authorization. You can work but only on campus and no more than 20 hours a week while school is in session. You can work 40 hours during vacation periods. Unauthorized employment is considered a violation of your visa status.**
