  1. You're kidding right?

  2. The plane is pushing you so if the plane stopped then you would carry on going .If you start running to the back of the plane then the plane stops you would fly back to the front and probably get a few mental atoms knocked out your head.

  3. I've always wondered. Apparently, it's the law of inertia. I accept the concept, but I just don't understand why!!! When I was on a train I stood up and jumped but I didn't end up further back. It frustrates me becuase it seems so reasonable that it would happen.

  4. Because you are traveling at the same speed as the Plane.

  5. Jake -

If you are anywhere near the equator, then you are spinning about the earth's axis at about 1,000 mph relative to the axis itself - just by standing on the ground. When you jump up and down on the ground, the ground does not leave you behind just because the Earth is spinning beneath your feet. There is nothing to slow you down, so you keep moving, just like Newton said. Same thing occurs in an aircraft, but you are moving a little faster or slower, depending on whether you are moving east or west.

  6. Inertia.

  7. Let say the plane is doing 200 MPH, you to are doing 200 MPH when you jump and when you come down from the jump. The action of jumping doesn't slow you from 200 MPH to zero.

  8. the same reason if you drop something inside a car it falls straight down. You, and everything in or on the plane are moving at the same speed as the plane. However, the wind outside the plane is not moving the same speed, which is why if you were standing on the roof of the plane and jumped, you would appear to get pushed backwards, because the wind is acting to decelerate you.
