  3. Because in the old days, since gold is a soft metal, the way to prove it was real was to bite it.  If your teeth left a mark it was real.  So now it's a cliche for demonstrating that it's a genuine gold medal.

  7. When you have a piece of gold you can bite it to make sure it's real gold, my guess is that they are biting it to check.

  10. yes its a bad thing to do. i guess the cameramen ask them to bite it. besides, the medal is NOT even real gold. its made of silver with goldplating. so above posts that they are checking to see if its real gold is totally wrong.
