my dog, they just shove the needle in without doing anything. I had a dog get infected once that way and it took weeks of treatment for him to get over it.

  1. The dog's skin isn't exposed, so, most likely, the alcohol would be absorbed by the fur before it even made it to the skin; therefore, the skin would never get disinfected.  It would be wasted effort, and vets are lazy :P. (jk)

  2. I think it probably has to do with the fur getting in the way. if a dog gets anything heavy like surgery, they shave and use antiseptics. They  should at least put on an antibiotic cream after the shot though.

  3. To prevent what happened to your Dog. The alcohol cleans the skin surrounding where the needle would go and prevents infevtions.
