Why is it whenever I'm putting someting together?

When I try to s***w it in, the s***w starts going in sideways and it makes it impossible to s***w it in completely?

because you start off crooked.

Pre-drilling with a drill bit a little bit smaller in diameter than the s***w works wonders.  Of course you have to make sure that the drill is going in straight.

I agree with the answer about slowly beginning it. Your body should also be as straight on as possible-- at least your arm. If your body can stand directly in front of the insertion point, you can use your body to lean into the effort and steady your arm. Still go slowly!
