I'm just wondering since everyone complains about jury duty. I don't know since I'm too young to be getting one. So what's so bad about it?

And is it mandatory, you have to do it?

  1. Yes, you have to do it.  It's boring and you pretty much just sit there and listen to lawyers fight. And that $10 a day sucks.  I've did it twice.

  2. Jury duty is not bad.  Many of the people who complain the most about it have never even been!

  3. it is not bad...as a matter of fact it lets you learn a lot about the justice system.   and if you are called to jury duty  it is mandatory  unless you have a legitimate reason to be excused.   it is a duty as an American to serve your jury duty and you should not try to avoid it unless you have a really good reason

  4. Well just try going into downtown los angeles.

    1. the traffic is terrible, so many crazy drivers etc.

    2. they cram some 200 people into this little room

(it was so bad that most of the time I sat on the bench in the hallway near the door)

    3. the pay is very little (which for me I could care less cause I work for Ma Bell (phone co.) and I got my full pay, no matter how many months I serve).

    4. I served one time during christmas, it was very slow, no cases. I was bored to death sitting around, and they made us stay until 5 pm.

  5. It depends on the case you get.  I recently sat on a jury that dealt with a death caused by road rage and found the trial to be very interesting.  I can imagine that other cases may be terrifically boring.

  6. Jury duty is not bad .Juries were put in our justice system so the people could protect each other from oppresive government and bad laws .Judges were given the title of honor because the highest honor a person could have was to be charged with the protection of the peoples rights  and the safety of the people from government .Our judges have betrayed the people and the honor of their offices . Not only have they failed to protect the people from government .But have also tried to keep our juries from protecting our citizens .Jury members not only have a right and duty to judge the facts but also the law the person is charged with violating .If the law or punishment for violating it in your opinion are not good or just ,you are to find the person not guilty even if he did commit the offense .Its called jury nullification .Judges do not tell juries of this right and if some one knows about it . Many times they will not let them on the jury .Justice> an impartial judgement based on truth fact and reason . Our justice system was based on the common law doctrine .In order for a crime to be committed there has to be a victim . If there is no injury or damage to anothers life or property there is no crime .Our government has made crimes out of what were rights to rob the people .Our courts serve our citizens up to be victimized  unconstitutionally Our courts today are not impartial or based on truth .If a judge were impartial why wouldnt he want the people to judge the laws they live by .

Trial by jury is another constitutional protection for the rights of the people. By assuring that the people themselves participate in the judicial process, governing authorities are prevented from unjustly prosecuting individuals. Trial by jury assumes that the people themselves are the best guardians of their own rights, and that they will release from custody any person unjustly charged. It also allows the people to make unjust laws of no effect with their power of jury nullification.

"The juries [are] our judges of all fact, and of law when they choose it." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:35

  7. All I know is that it is mandatory and that you do have to serve on a jury if asked by anybody.  It is one of the four duties of citizens.  But as you know you don't have to do that yet.
